Orion Pharmaceuticals… Where to begin? To be honest, when I first logged on to see what my company was I was frustrated that I didn’t get an Australian company, or a company that I was already aware of. In my head I had thought that if I already knew the company than it would be a little easier for me. I can see that this is not the case with the amount of research involved in getting to know your company. It’s safe to say that Orion is definitely growing on me! Orion pharmaceuticals are a Finnish company that is operated globally and was founded in 1917. It produces and sells its own human and veterinary pharmaceuticals. Orion also does all of its own research within its own facilities, and sells active pharmaceutical ingredients. Their business motto is ‘A builder of well-being’. Are you hooked? Because I am! This was a very interesting read for me. Again I have more questions than answers after reading this chapter, but I am sure these questions will be answered throughout the term. The section that I found really interesting and stuck with me the most was the two key qualities of financial statements. I know these two qualities, relevance and faithful representation, will really help me in decoding my own company’s financial statements. My company has added what they’re expecting their economic growth to be in the coming years, so I now need to incorporate these qualities into my interpretation of these statements. Next week I will provide all information and data in relation to my company.

So here I am writing my reflections for assessment one and trying to get a head start on this course. I have more questions than answers from this part of the assessment and it is safe to say that this is not what I was expecting. But, buckle up!!! I’m here for the long run and am determined to have all of my questions answered by the end of this course! Each week I’m going to be writing my reflections on the weeks readings and assessment. For this week, it really got me thinking about what accounting is and what I thought accounting was defined as. I am starting to see more of a connection between accounting and business realities. I am astonished to see how many CEO’s have an accounting background. This gives me high hopes for my future and this course!
